"Good God almighty," shouted the words of one country song's chorus, "He's the poor man's friend!" Roosevelt attained the status of a saint. With the Great Depression and the New Deal in the 1930s, Democrats had greater appeal in the rest of rural America, even while remaining strongest in the rural South. In the South, the Democratic Party had been the dominant political identity since before the Civil War. But the motivations behind Lynn's endorsement mattered because they expressed changes underway over a period of years in agricultural America and among middle-class voters who worked for wages and did not have a college degree.įor generations, those voters had been the bedrock of the Democratic Party. Of course no one country singer, no matter how beloved, could confer the presidency on Bush or any other candidate - not in 1988 or in any other year. Lynn later campaigned for the second President Bush, George W. She was telling them Bush would act as their guardian, defending what her fans regarded as America (and certainly doing that better than that year's Democratic nominee, Michael Dukakis, the technocratic governor of Massachusetts). She was not inventing a false biography for him she was communicating a certain shared faith with her audience. If Loretta Lynn said Bush was country, in a sense, he was. Whether Lynn's description fit him or not, Bush spent much of 1988 doing his best to earn it - getting photographed driving a truck and professing his deep love of deep-fried pork rinds.īut none of that was what really mattered. Bush went from a super-elite private prep school to Yale, and after Navy service and a few years in Midland, Texas, setting up an oil business, he moved to a well-heeled part of Houston and from there back to Washington as a member of Congress, director of the CIA, chairman of the Republican Party and Reagan's vice president. Bush had been born in New England and raised in Washington, D.C., the son of a senator from Connecticut. That provoked a few smiles and much head scratching at the time. On that occasion, referring to one of her own signature songs ("You're Looking at Country"), Lynn told the crowd and the cameras that looking at Bush was "looking at country." And in case there was any doubt, she leaned into the microphone and proclaimed: "I know George Bush, and he is country." Surprise at Lynn's alignment with Trump was a reprise of the reaction some of her fans had when she appeared on stage in 1988 with the Republican nominee for president, George H.W. (The 2016 Democratic nominee had alienated some country music fans with what seemed a slighting reference to the phrase "Stand By Your Man," the title of Tammy Wynette's ethos-defining song about marriage.) Lynn once told an interviewer she had gone with Trump in part because her audiences would have booed her if she had endorsed Hillary Clinton. Some of Lynn's fans were surprised this week to learn she had supported former President Donald Trump That change made a big difference in American politics when it happened, helping to elect Republican presidents such as Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and both Presidents Bush.Īnd it continues to make a big difference today.

Again its simple to learn and master and is very capable. Second, we no longer buy a full suite of image editing, because the Snagit Editor gives us, 80% or more of the tools we need for our image editing needs. Where you can edit video in a simple, not techy way, for most of us, we don't have the time nor knowledge to manage full video editing software, so this tools saves us money, because we don't had to hire a video editor, since most of them are simple direct video content. The screen capture tool, with different parameters, the video creating option for quick videos and trainings, plus the hidden secret, is the GREAT Snagit Editor. Snagit is the most complete screen capture utility available. We choose this software a few years ago, since it gives us 3 tools in one, in a very positive way. Its usefulness and easy straight forward process. The most important aspect is the screen capture capabilities. > What I'd really like is for the numerical x labels to be there (stata default is fine) but with these additional vertical lines being labeled somewhere, there is space on the graph but I can't figure out how to do it. Notice: On April 23, 2014, Statalist moved from an email list to a forum, based at. Unfortunately, you'll never know which abilities are the most useful for any given area before you load the next hunt and start the timer. This diverse selection of companions allows players to find the one that fits their playstyle and to approach challenges in different ways. All these creatures have unique abilities and attacks. Some of these Servans have utilitarian abilities that will help you unlock new areas of the map, others give Aluche special weapons that she can use and level up. There is a nice selection of Servans, demon companions, two of which you can bring along with you to hunt. For instance, there are many companions Aluche can take with her into battle but the time crunch will prevent players from getting to experiment with all the combinations available. Yet, they work against other gameplay mechanics that would otherwise be enjoyable. If you don't move the story forward before a new moon, it's game over.īoth of these timed elements present an interesting challenge that will appeal to a certain type of gamer and frustrate others. Our scantily clad knight is also racing against the waning moon. During this time she can complete missions and accrue money, items, and XP. Aluche has a set amount of time to go out each night and hunt. At the heart of the gameplay is another of GUST's trademarks, the use of time as a combined game and story element. Many of these additions to the game would be great on their own but put all together they butt heads so that players won't get to fully explore them or make the game less enjoyable. The ladies are easy on the eyes, although the graphics aren't top notch and hopefully clipping issues aren't a turnoff. The game includes a decent soundtrack, a nice variety in the cast of companions, GUST's trademark creepy enemy designs and interesting weapons to use. In the process, our heroine is turned into a half-demon vampire and must grow more powerful before tracking down the big bad Moon Queen, saving her friend and the world. This solution doesn't sit well with Aluche who decides to defeat the Moon Queen instead of giving into her demands. She is tasked with protecting her childhood friend, the powerful priestess Lilia, who has been chosen to be sacrificed to the Moon Queen in an effort to keep the world from being plunged into an eternal, demon-ruled night. Our protagonist is Aluche, a courageous Knight of the Curia that is more brawn than brain. However, those similarities quickly break down once you get further into the game, leaving fans of the original wishing the sequel was as uninspired a clone of the original as it seemed at first glance. The same character archetypes are used and the gameplay is very similar, with timed missions defined by basic objectives like get to point B or kill X amount of enemies. At the start, Nights of Azure 2 seems a little too similar to Nights of Azure. Notice that snippets defined in snippets.json file has higher priority over ones defined in snippets*.json. This is why it is crucial for ferrous foundries to take proactive steps to protect themselves against major hazards that could have ruinous financial consequences. The fact that foundries also risk impacting the environment is another inherent hazard to consider. While there is no question that ferrous foundries play an important role in the global supply chain, it is also abundantly clear that foundries that process ferrous metals can face a number of risks.įoundries depend on high-temperature furnaces, and workers pour molten metals into casts, after all. Common examples of ferrous metals are cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel, all of which have a wide range of applications within industry as well as for domestic purposes. Products include cast iron pipe, cast iron skillets, engine blocks, and many other products.įerrous foundries can process a multitude of different ferrous metals - or metals that contain significant amounts of iron. The castings may be painted to prevent corrosion.Īll along the way, testing and monitoring must be conducted to ascertain quality and purity of casting. Once cooled, the casting is removed from the mold and finished by grinding, sand blasting, deburring, and often some type of heat treating or tempering. This mixture is poured into molds covered with wax or refractory slurry, a paste of fine sand, clay, or similar material. The molten iron or steel may be refined to remove impurities such as hydrogen gases, or have other ingredients added to produce alloys. The process begins with raw pig iron bricks that are melted in a furnace at temperatures up to 3000 degrees. Ferrous foundries handle iron, steel, and iron-based alloys. Foundries are dedicated to metal casting, which means they melt metals of various kinds and subsequently pour it into molds to create the desired shape.įoundry or casting operations make castings by pouring molten metal into molds and letting it solidify. The Execution platform kills people in a very cheap and efficient way by using scalding steam to burn and wetten up the victim, then the victim freezes to death if he endured the previous burns.Mt.Signing this law should be a last resort for most players though, as it makes your ending bad instantly. This allows for virtually limitless cruelty, as any rebellion will be quenched by a single execution. The Execution Platform is a building that lets you quite literally fry and freeze a "Public Enemy" randomly picked from your male adult populace, and lower Discontent by a substantial margin. Luckily for you, there is a new bulding erected automatically when the law is signed. Obedience remains at a 100 % at all times, and the only way to get yourself deruled is by raising the Discontent too much. Roughly 10-40 people will die when you sign it, and Hope will be replaced by Obedience. The New Order, similarly to New Faith, is the final law of Order. The only real Hope management building for Order is the Propaganda Centre, which not only prevents the player from getting the golden path(atestation pending), but also remains inaccessible until later on in the game, while Faith has the Temple and the Houses of Prayer, which almost nullify any Hope loss. Of course, the neccesity of each law may vary from player to player, but Faith has crucial laws easily accessible from the start, which can't be said about Order in the same way. To get the essential laws for every tree, you will need to sign 6 laws on Faith, and 8 on Order. Generally speaking, Faith has better Law layouts when compared to Order. These buildings are very powerful and choosing Order will leave you without the ability to use them. The Field Kitchen on the other hand prevents sickness, as it has the amazing ability to heat up nearby workplaces by one heat level up using five Food Rations per day. Houses of Healing allow for Workers to cure people AND the Gravely Ill, which makes it a life saver if the City is low on Engineers. Faith No Houses of Healing/Field Kitchens įield Kitchens and Houses of Healing are the two reasons why most of the Frostpunk playerbase deems Faith stronger. However, the power of Order's discontent reduction capabilities gives the player more headroom for ie. Faith, on the other hand, is more suitable for dealing with low Hope, so it is advisable to choose Faith if you are struggling with this, as Order has only one building for serious Hope management, which is the Propaganda Centre. Order provides the player with easy and intuitive discontent management through the use of Patrols and Prisons. It affects automatons, too, and as unrealistic as that may sound, it is a major boon to any resource production, as the Automaton will be able to use the full 24 hour effect of this ability. This ability costs 10 Food Rations and in return boosts the chosen workplace's efficiency by 40 %. Order has quite a few advantages when compared to Faith, first and foremost the Foreman ability. The order flag is a black, gear-like symbol on a red canvas. Its main aim is productivity and obedience, as opposed to Faith's spirituality and good intent. Order is characterised by its militant style, with guards, large towers and loudspeakers. Order is currently one of the two purpose trees available, with the next one being Faith.
